Colonial Athletic Association Dual

FAIRFIELD, Conn.?Rider improved to 8-12, 5-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, winning nine bouts over Sacred Heart Saturday night.  “It was good to end our dual meet season on a good note,” said head coach Gary Taylor.  “Not only was it good to get two wins today, we increased the confidence of some of the individual wrestlers as well.”

Earlier in the day, the Broncs defeated Boston U. 30-6.

For the Broncs against the Pioneers, senior 197 T.J. Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) won by fall with junior 165 Jason Lapham (West Chazy, N.Y./Beekmantown) winning a major decision.

“You have to remember, wrestling Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Nebraska, they are some of the best teams in the entire country, bar anybody,” said Taylor.  “Our goal from the beginning has been getting our wrestlers ready, mentally and physically for a shot at nationals and I think we are peaking at the right time.  It may have hurt our dual meet record but it helped prepare some individuals.”

Heavyweight Ed Bordas (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) posted a double overtime win, sophomore 133 Thomas Lorenzo (West Orange) won in overtime and senior 149 Don Fisch (Williamstown/Delsea) also posted a victory.

Don Fisch and Jason Lapham had some nice wins today,” Taylor said.  Thomas Lorenzo also had a couple of nice wins so it was a good day.”

Also winning for the Broncs were freshman 125 Ilyass Elmasouri (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff),  freshman 141 Fred Rodgers (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown), sophomore 157 Rob Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and sophomore 174 Mike Darling (Moorestown).

Rider competes at the CAA Championships March 7-8 at Hofstra.  “I'm pleased we wrestled hard all day long and were aggressive all day and hopefully we'll have a good conference meet and get the guys who are deserving headed to nationals," Taylor added.
