BALTIMORE, Md.? The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Loyola Saturday. “They're good, clearly one of the top teams in the conference, and they played well today,” Rider head coach Kevin Long said of Loyola.

The Greyhounds (5-5-2, 2-0-1 MAAC) scored in the 62nd minute of play on a goal by Theresa Ferraina, her team-high sixth goal of the season. “They scored off of a corner rebound,” Long said. “We cleared it but it went back to the corner kick taker who rifled in a shot that was outstanding. The shot was unstoppable.”

Ferraina scored with a left-footed shot from just outside the box.

Loyola out-shot Rider (5-5-3, 1-2 MAAC) 13-2. “Loyola took advantage of an opportunity,” Long said. “They had more opportunities to take advantage of.”

Freshmen Kara Perkoski (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and Lauren Musumeci (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) had shots for Rider.

Rider freshman goalkeeper Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made four saves.  Brittany Henderson made one save for Loyola.

“I thought (sophomore) Stacy Belgiovene (of Toms River North) and one of our captains, (senior) Shana Herman (of Cherry Hill East) played well today,” Long said. “They were doing a very good job denying access to Loyola's front runners.”

Rider lost 3-0 to Loyola last season. The Broncs and Greyhounds have met 16 times since the series began in 1997, with Loyola winning 15. The two teams tied in 2001.

“Today the whole game was pretty even,” Long said. “They definitely got in more and got more shots. We were able to have a midfield battle with them.”

Rider travels to Western New York to take on Niagara Friday and Canisius Sunday in a pair of MAAC games. “It would be nice to go up to Niagara and Canisius and come home with two results that keep us in the playoff picture,” Long said. “If we don't, we could put ourselves in a must win situation the rest of the way.”
