Tess Ferrie’s Second-Half Goal Lifts Women’s Soccer Past Marist in Season Finale

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Tess Ferrie's 48th-minute strike lifted the Rider women's soccer team (3-8-7, 1-6-5) to its first MAAC win of the 2025 season, as the Broncs closed out the year on a high note with a 1-0 victory over Marist (6-7-5, 5-2-5) Wednesday night on Ben Cohen Field.

Marist had already secured a spot in the MAAC Tournament before kickoff, but the Red Foxes entered the night needing a win to lock up the chance to host a first-round matchup.

The Red Foxes nearly struck early in the 4th minute when Gabby Tirado fired a rocket that rattled off the crossbar.

Marist continued to control possession and apply pressure, forcing Rider goalkeeper Ashley Moore to make three key saves in the first half.

At halftime, Marist held an 8-2 shot advantage, including a 3-1 edge in shots on goal.

Rider came out of the locker room fired up after the break, and the intensity paid off right away.

Just three minutes into the second half, Noa Menzing sent a cross from the far corner that found Tess Ferrie, who finished with a one-timer in the 48th minute to put the hosts ahead 1-0.

Ava Ferrie came close to extending the lead in the 69th minute, firing a shot from just outside the box that went high.

Marist pushed for an equalizer late, firing nine second-half shots, but Moore stood tall with three more saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Quotes and Notes
"This win is really for the players and the hard work they've put in. It's been a tough and challenging season with injuries and plenty of adversity. There were games we could have won but didn't, and we tied seven this season. I'm just really happy for them to finish the season with a home shutout and a win, and hopefully carry this momentum into next year."- Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome

"Winning always feels great, but this season we haven't always had the best results, and we've tried to stay positive through it all. In this last game, we really played for our seniors and made sure to give our all for them tonight." – Sophomore Forward Tess Ferrie
