HAMDEN, CT – The Rider University field hockey team fell to Quinnipiac, 5-1, on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The Broncs fall to 2-8 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 5-3.
Quinnipiac opened the scoring late in the first quarter, converting a penalty stroke to take a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats added another late in the second quarter off a penalty corner to take a 2-0 advantage into the half.
Jade Regnart was strong in the cage throughout the opening half, recording three of her four saves to keep the Broncs in the game.
Quinnipiac extended its lead late in the third quarter to make it 3-0.
After Quinnipiac added another goal in the fourth, the Broncs answered with their first goal of the afternoon. Rider earned a penalty corner and capitalized on the opportunity. Samantha Biondi found Caroline Mauer, who sent the ball into the back of the cage to cut the Quinnipiac lead to 4-1.
Quinnipiac added one more goal in the fourth for the 5-1 final.
