LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University field hockey team battled through rainy conditions Friday night to earn their first home win of the season, defeating Merrimack 3-2. With the win, the Broncs improve to 3-8 on the season, while the Warriors fall to 1-9.
The Broncs got on the board first in the opening quarter. Sam Connolly scored off an assist from Emma Bonshak, giving Rider an early 1-0 lead.Merrimack scored in the second quarter to even the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Rider regained the lead in the third quarter when Caroline Mauer found the back of the cage to put the Broncs ahead 2-1.The Warriors answered in the fourth quarter and tied the game at 2-2.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Broncs broke the tie. Ang Borisow scored off an assist from Liv Cox to give Rider the 3-2 advantage and secure the Broncs' first home win of the season.
