LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — To cap off an impressive regular season for Rider Men's Tennis, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference today announced its All-MAAC selections and major award winners, featuring five Broncs for the first time in program history.
Leading the way is Cole Thurgur, who was named MAAC Player of the Year and All-MAAC First Team in singles. Thurgur went undefeated in singles this season in both conference and non-conference play, winning twenty-two consecutive sets before having that streak broken in an unfinished match at Mount St. Mary's on Monday. Thurgur earned MAAC Player of the Week honors earlier this season, and his selection of MAAC Men's Player of the Year marks the first time in program history that a Rider athlete has won the award.
Thurgur and Matteus Froberg Dahlin were also the only tandem to be unanimously selected to the All-MAAC Doubles First Team. The duo went 6-1 in conference play, dropping one or fewer games in four of their seven completed matches. Froberg Dahlin joins Thurgur in earning All-MAAC First Team honors in singles.
Nathan Slattery, whose win streak in singles currently sits at eleven, earned All-MAAC Second Team honors in singles as well. Slattery earned straight-set victories in six of his eight conference matches en route to a perfect 8-0 record in MAAC play.
Finally, Heath Paul Waters and Ibragim Turgambekov were selected to the All-MAAC Third Team in doubles. The tandem went 3-3 in conference play this season, and Waters picked up the MAAC Rookie of the Week award on April 8th in an impressive first season for the freshman from Georgia.
With five selections to All-MAAC teams, Rider Men's Tennis has eclipsed its previous total of three – a feat achieved last season – in setting a new program record. Froberg Dahlin and Thurgur become the first student-athletes to achieve First Team status in singles since Stavros Hadjivarnava in 2024, and set a new program record for the total number of First Team selections between both singles and doubles.
Men's Tennis will compete in the MAAC Men's Tennis Championships for the third consecutive season, beginning on Saturday with a match against third-seeded Quinnipiac. Rider's second-place finish in the regular season is the highest in program history.
