Box Score LOUDONVILLE, NY — Men's Tennis picked up its fifth consecutive victory, and its sixth in the last seven matches, with a narrow 4-3 win over the Siena Saints.
Rider began the day on the right foot, winning a pair of doubles matches to secure the early point. Matteus Froberg Dahlin and Cole Thurgur earned a 6-3 victory, while Axel Engstrom and Roger Martinez won 6-4. Heath Paul Waters and Ibragim Turgambekov were in a 4-4 tie when the Broncs secured the point, and the match went unfinished.
Coming off winning Jersey Mike's MAAC Player of the Week, Thurgur earned his eighth consecutive straight-set singles victory by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Thurgur has not dropped a set in a singles match since the first set in his match against Florida Southern, and has improved to 19-0 between singles and doubles this season.
A couple of other Broncs earned straight-set victories, with Matthew Griscti securing a 6-4, 6-4 decision and Martinez winning 6-2, 6-3. With the contest even at 3-3, Nathan Slattery rebounded from a tough second set loss to win 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to clinch the match for the Broncs. Slattery's win streak in singles has now improved to eight straight.
With just three matches remaining in the regular season, men's tennis currently sits tied for second in the MAAC with a 4-1 record. The Broncs currently hold the second-longest win streak in the conference.
Men's Tennis will return to action on Sunday with a MAAC Championship rematch against Quinnipiac.
