LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's lacrosse team was defeated Wednesday afternoon, being topped by Monmouth, 17-8. The Broncs fall to 1-6 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 5-2.
The Hawks opened the scoring just over midway through the opening quarter, but
Marissa Ross (Reisterstwon, MD/Beth Tfiloh[FDU-Florham]) had the quick counter for the Broncs, but Monmouth responded with four-straight goals before
Maggie Hance (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) scored on the free position to trim the deficit to 5-2 after the opening 15 minutes.
The Hawks scored the first six goals of the second quarter, but it was Hance who scored just before the close of the half to make it 11-3 entering the break.
Goals by
Marybeth Smith (Macungie, PA/Emmaus[La Salle]) and
Kayleigh Colleary (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart[Butler]) kept Rider within nine at 14-5 following the third.
Monmouth scored three to push the lead to 17-5 in the fourth. Colleary would score a pair of goals, wrapped around a tally from
Taylor Santoro (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) to produce the final score, but the clock would run out on any further comeback.
