LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's lacrosse team was defeated Wednesday afternoon, falling 17-9 to Manhattan. The Broncs fall to 1-10 on the season and 0-2 in league play, while the Jaspers improve to 2-9 on the year on 1-1 in league games.
The Jaspers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before Kaleigh Colleary (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart[Butler]) got the Broncs on the board and
Maggie Hance (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) followed with a pair of goals to trim the deficit to 5-3 at the end of the first quarter.
Manhattan scored first in the second, but Colleary and
Hannah Kozik (Ellington, CT/Ellington) answered for the Broncs to keep Rider within one at 6-5. Manhattan would score twice, but Hance scored her third of the game just before the half to send the Broncs into the break down just 8-6.
Manhattan took control of the game with another 5-0 run to start the third quarter. Colleary and
Marybeth Smith (Macungie, PA/Emmaus[La Salle]) scored to end the third and start the fourth, but the Jaspers would score another four-straight before
Marissa Ross (Reisterstown, MD/Beth Tfiloh[FDU-Florham]) found the back of the cage to round out the scoring.
