GREENVILLE, NC – The Rider University softball team was defeated twice Saturday on day two at the Battle at the Max, falling to East Carolina, 7-2, before falling to Campbell, 12-0. The Broncs are now 3-9 on the season. The Pirates moved to 13-7 and the Camels improved to 11-7 on the year.
In the first game of day two, the Broncs fell behind 6-0, allowing three in the first, one in the second, and two in the third. In the top of the fourth,
Abby Cruz (Corona, CA/Santiago) reached on a one-out error.
Kendall Reda-Fehsal (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) followed with a two-run homer. In the bottom of the fifth, the Pirates tacked on an insurance run. Rider threatened in the top of the seventh.
Maddie Luedtke (Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) got a two-out single and
Shelby Dyer (Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) drew a walk, but the two runners would be stranded to close out the game.
Against Campbell, the Camels jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first.
Fallyn Stoeckel (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) would lead off the bottom of the first with a walk, but she would be the lone Bronc to reach base in the game. The Camels added a run in the top of the fourth and five in the top of the fifth to take the win.
