EDISON, NJ – For the third time this season, Elijah Griffin has been named the MAC East Division Wrestler of the Week after defeating another ranked opponent, the league announced Tuesday morning.
In Rider's dual against Lock Haven, the 141-pound bout featured a Top 25 showdown, as No. 14/20 Elijah Griffin squared off with familiar foe No. 24/30 Wyatt Henson in a rematch of the season-opening Princeton Open semifinals. This time, Griffin left no doubt. After a narrow 4-3 win earlier in the year, Griffin controlled the action with a takedown in each period, capped by a last-second go-behind on the edge of the mat, to earn a commanding 12-2 major decision and push Rider's lead to 15-0. The victory marked Griffin's sixth win over a ranked opponent this season, improving him to a team-best 21-5 overall.
The graduate student is ranked as high as No. 14 in this week's InterMat national rankings.
The Broncs returns to action on Feb. 14, traveling to Philadelphia to take on Drexel.
First whistle is set for 4 p.m.
