WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Rider University field hockey team scored first, but Monmouth came back to defeat the Broncs, 7-1, Sunday afternoon. The Broncs drop to 1-2 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 4-0.
The Broncs got on the board first, late in the opening quarter. After
Semra Said (Mannheim, Germany/Feudenheim Gymnasium Mannheim) saw her shot get saved,
Emma Bonshak (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) pounced on the rebound finding the back of the cage to put Rider in front 1-0.
The score remained there until the final five minutes of the second quarter, when Monmouth would score twice to take the one-goal lead into the half.
The Hawks carried the momentum into the second half, scoring three times in the first 2:39 of the second half. Monmouth added a goal in the third and another in the fourth to produce the final score.
