Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Falls to Hofstra in Shootout

HEMPSTEAD, NY – The Rider University field hockey team went through four quarters and two overtime periods, before ultimately falling to Hofstra 3-2 in a shootout Friday evening. The Broncs drop to 1-1 on the season, while the Pride improve to 2-1.

The Broncs got an early lead, finding the game's first goal off a corner five minutes into the game. Valeria Perales (Madrid, Spain/IES Mirasierra) made the insert to Ang Borisow (Harleysville, PA/Souderton), who found an open Megan Normile (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt). Normile ripped a shot that got through and found the back of the cage.

Less than a minute into the second quarter, the Broncs struck again on the penalty corner. Perales once again made the insert, this time to Semra Said (Mannheim, Germany/Feudenheim Gymnasium Mannheim). Said made the stick stop and Anna Finn (Windsor, NY/Windsor Central) played the ball toward goal, where it found the stick of Borisow, who turned and fired to extend the lead to 2-0.

Hofstra responded with a goal late in the first half, and the Broncs remained in front into the break. With just over five minutes remaining, the Pride would find the equalizer and send the game to overtime.

Both sides got opportunities in the extra sessions, with Rider getting five penalty corners in the extra sessions, and Hofstra earning a pair of penalty strokes in the overtime periods. The Broncs could not capitalize on the opportunities and both of the Pride's strokes found the back of the cage, but both were waived off for illegal shots.
