Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Downed by Towson

TOWSON, MD – The Rider University field hockey team was topped Sunday afternoon, 2-1, at Towson. The Broncs drop to 1-5 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 4-4.

The Tigers blitzed the Broncs early, getting a goal just a minute and a half into the contest, then doubling the lead, scoring with just a minute and a half remaining in the quarter, both goals coming off of rebounds of prior shots.

The Broncs settled in after that holding the Tiger attack at bay, but the Broncs could not make any headway on the offensive side of the ball, and the score remained 2-0 at the break.

Rider finally broke through late in the third. Valeria Perales (Madrid, Spain/IES Mirasierra) made the insert on the penalty corner to Semra Said (Mannheim, Germany/Feudenheim Gymnasium Mannheim). Said set up Anna Finn (Windsor, NY/Windsor Central), whose shot found the back of the cage and put Rider on the board.

Rider got its best chance to tie the game in the final minute of the contest. Said was able to get into the circle and get a shot, but it was saved. The Broncs ended the sequence by drawing a corner, but the Towson penalty corner defense escaped peril, not allowing a Rider shot on the corner opportunity.
