Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Helias Makes 13 Saves, But Men's Soccer Falls at Georgetown

Helias' 13 saves most by a Rider goalkeeper in more than a decade

WASHINGTON, DC – Rider University men's soccer graduate student goalkeeper Marius Helias (Saint Florentin, France) made a season-high 13 saves, but the Broncs fell at Georgetown, 3-0, Saturday night. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-5-1, while the Hoyas are now 3-2-2.

Georgetown got on the board in the sixth minute after being awarded a penalty kick after a foul on the left side of the 18-yard box. Helias leaned right, before Zach Zengue hesitated and calmly finished down the middle. Zengue added a second goal in the 25th minute. Helias made the initial stop on a Mitchell Baker shot. But Max Viera collected the rebound in the box and made a short cross in front to Zengue for the finish from seven yards out at the left post.

The Hoyas' lead swelled to 3-0 in the 44th minute, with Mateo Ponce Ocampo taking a Matthew Van Horn pass from midfield and traveling all the way into the box, before shooting with his left foot and a defender on his right hip to finish over the left shoulder of Helias.

The lone scoring of the second half came in the 82nd minute, when Jack Lindimore elevated at the goal line to head in a Jack Brown cross.

Notes
- Helias' 13 saves are the most by a Rider goalkeeper in more than a decade. The last time a Bronc stopped more than 10 shots was a 12-save performance by Ryan Baird vs. Vermont in the 2016 NCAA Tournament First Round. The 13 saves fall well short of Ed Adams' Rider-record 37 saves vs. Army in 1953.
- The Broncs and Hoyas met on the pitch for the first time in the two programs' histories.
- Helias, Max Schrader (Cherry Hill, NJ/Scholar Athletes Leadership Academy), Leo Arndt (Dusseldorf, Germany/Lore Lorentz College) and Theo Da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/University of Rio Grande) each played all 90 minutes.

Broncs By The Numbers
- All 11 of Georgetown's shots in the first half were on target and 13 of the Hoyas first 14 attempts were on goal. The Hoyas took a 21-5 edge in shots for the game, including a 17-1 edge in shots on goal.
- Georgetown took nine corner kicks to the Broncs' one.
- Ezra Punselie (Nieuw-Vennep, Netherlands/Zaanlands Lyceum) and Drew Heil (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) took two shots each to lead Rider.
- Gio Polizzi (San Ramon, CA/Tilden Preparatory [Missouri State]) had the Broncs' lone shot on goal.
 -
The Hoyas were cautioned twice, while the Broncs were not shown a yellow card.
