Men's Soccer Falls in MAAC Opener to Canisius, 1-0

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University men's soccer team fell to Canisius, 1-0, in its MAAC opener Saturday afternoon on Ben Cohen Field. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-6-1 (0-1-0 MAAC), while the Griffs are now 3-3-1 (1-0-0 MAAC).

The first half went scoreless, with the Broncs taking a 4-2 edge in shots, including three Xavi Csato (Stuart, FL/The Pine School [Stetson/UNC Greensboro]) attempts, all on target, being saved by Canisius goalkeeper Dominic Dominguez. Canisius took two shots, both off target, in the period.

Still scoreless into the 76th minute, an attempted Broncs header back to the goalkeeper went wrong, into the goal for the lone tally of the game.

Quotes & Notes
"Obviously, I think we let three points get away from us today. But you've got to finish chances to win games. You've got to score goals. I think we were able to create and get into position to score goals. Then we have to figure out how to execute in the final third. Unfortunately, the game can break down on how we gave the goal away. But at the end of the day, we've got to be more polished around goal to not even put ourselves in that position." – Rider Head Coach Chad Duernberger

- Ben Collins (Wellington, New Zealand/Wellington College) got the start in goal for the Broncs and did not face a shot on goal.
- Marius Helias (Saint Florentin, France) entered in net for the second half and made one save.
- Rider leads the all-time series with Canisius, 16-11-3. The Broncs and Griffs did not play in last year's eight-game schedule. The last time Rider and Canisius met on the pitch, the teams played to a 2-2 draw on Oct. 18, 2023.
- Ryan Vaubel (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North [West Virginia]), Leo Arndt (Dusseldorf, Germany/Lore Lorentz College), Theo Da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/University of Rio Grande), Ricky Joasilus (Providenciales, Turks & Caicos [UTRGV]) and Kaelan Debbage (Queensland, Australia/Kawana Waters State H.S. [Spring Arbor Univ./Gardner Webb]) each played all 90 minutes.
