LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University Women's Lacrosse Head Coach
Evan Mager has announced his resignation to accept another coaching opportunity. Mager spent three years at Rider as the program's first-ever coach, helping to launch the program in Fall 2022, before finding considerable success in the team's first two seasons.
"I want to sincerely thank Don and Karin for the incredible opportunity to start the women's lacrosse program at Rider," said Mager. "From day one, my family and I felt right at home, and we were welcomed with open arms by the entire Rider community—staff, coaches, and administration alike. Over the past three years, it has been deeply fulfilling to build the program from the ground up and watch it grow into a conference playoff contender. I'm proud of the foundation we've laid and excited for the bright future ahead for Rider Women's Lacrosse as a competitive force in the MAAC. I'm grateful for the relationships I've formed and the memories made, and I will always be a proud supporter of Rider University. Go Broncs! With that said, I'm also incredibly thankful for a new opportunity and look forward to this next chapter in my coaching journey."
In Rider's inaugural season of 2024, Mager guided the Broncs to an 8-9 record, including wins in each of the program's first four games.
Katie Walsh was named to the All-MAAC Second Team with
Elena Bontatibus and
Hayley Henderson earning MAAC All-Rookie Team honors.
Kylee Garcia was selected to the IWLCA Senior All-Star Game.
In 2025, the program took the next step, finishing 8-10, including a 3-5 mark in MAAC play to reach the MAAC Tournament for the first time. The Broncs defeated defending MAAC Champion Niagara in the first round of the MAAC Tournament. Walsh earned First-Team All-MAAC honors and
Marissa Ross earned Second-Team All-MAAC honors after helping the Broncs finish in the top 10 in the country in draw control percentage.
Elizabeth Shean was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
"I'd like to thank Evan for his efforts in creating the Rider Women's Lacrosse program over the last three years," said Rider Athletic Director
Don Harnum. "Building a program from the ground up is challenging, but he's established a strong, winning culture on and off the field and has been a valuable asset to our department. We wish Evan all the best in the next step of his career."
In two full seasons, 20 Broncs earned MAAC All-Academic Team honors and four more were named Academic All-District in 2025.
The search for a new Rider Women's Lacrosse Head Coach will begin immediately.
