Tivon Benjamin Competes for Antigua at CARIFTA Championships

COUVA, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Rider University men's swimmer Tivon Benjamin represented his home country of Antigua over the past weekend at the XXVIII CARIFTA Aquatics Championships, held in Trinidad and Tobago. The international age-group competition brings together athletes from across the Caribbean to compete in various aquatic disciplines.

"The CARIFTA Swimming Championships mean a lot to me not just because of the level of competition, but because I got to race against top swimmers from across the Caribbean who I've grown up competing with," said Benjamin. "It's always an honor to represent Antigua and Barbuda on the regional stage, and this meet gave me another opportunity to do so with pride. As team captain, I focused on leading by example, keeping the team motivated, and creating a supportive environment where every swimmer felt empowered to perform their best."

Benjamin swam on three relay teams, helping his country take sixth in the 400-free relay, seventh in the 400-medley relay, and eighth in the 200-free relay. Individually, Benjamin set a new personal-best 56.24 on his way to a fifth-place finish in the 100-fly. He equaled his personal best in the 50-fly with a time of 25.24, taking sixth, and set a new personal best, swimming 2:15.91 to earn a seventh-place finish in the 200-fly. His leadoff leg in the 400-medley relay, set a national record in the 100-back, posting a time of 1:02.79.

Benjamin will return for his sophomore season after a strong freshman campaign, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the 100-fly at the MAAC Championships.
