Baseball Sweeps Saint Peter’s with 17-10 Victory

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rider baseball team completed a sweep of MAAC opponent Saint Peter's with a 17-10 victory on Sunday afternoon in New Jersey.

The Peacocks came out swinging, piling up seven runs in the top of the first inning to grab an early lead.

The Broncs answered back in the second inning when Griffin Puvel's RBI single drove in Nick Shuhet, following a sacrifice fly to get Rider on the board.

Rider's offense continued to show up at the top of the third. Shuhet sent in a run, followed by a two-RBI single from Will Gallagher, cutting the deficit to 7-5.

Joe Tiroly kept his hot streak alive, blasting a two-run homer to tie the game at seven. Moments later, Peter Crespo crushed his fourth home run of the season, propelling the Broncs ahead 8-7.

Saint Peter's reclaimed the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, making it a 9-8 game.

Rider responded at the top of the seventh. Eric Hartman stepped up and launched his first home run of the season, a grand slam over the center field wall, giving the Broncs a commanding 12-9 lead.

The Broncs continued their offensive eruption with just three batters later when Nick Shuhet unleashed a two-run homer to push the lead to 14-9.

Rider put the game out of reach in the eighth, capitalizing on a walk and two hit-by-pitches to add three more runs and secure the 17-10 win.
