CLEVELAND, OH – The Rider University wrestling team has climbed to the top of the MAC December Rankings, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
After being picked fourth in the MAC Preseason Poll in October, the Broncs have steadily risen through the rankings and now sit in first place with 95.5 points. Rider holds a narrow edge over preseason favorite George Mason (89 points), followed by Central Michigan (81), Edinboro (80) and Lock Haven (79.5) to round out the top five.
Three Broncs lead their respective weight classes in the December rankings, highlighted by
Tyler Klinsky at 125 pounds,
Elijah Griffin at 141 pounds and
Brock Zurawski at 197 pounds.
Klinsky is off to an 8-3 start this season, highlighted by four wins over ranked opponents, including a signature victory over No. 9 Jett Strickenberger of West Virginia. Griffin owns a team-high 11-3 record with four ranked wins of his own, led by a victory over No. 14 Wyatt Henson of Lock Haven in November. Zurawski joins Klinsky and Griffin atop the MAC rankings at 197 pounds.
In addition to leading the conference, all three Broncs are ranked nationally in their respective weight classes, with a fourth also appearing in the national rankings.
