LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University field hockey team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Friday night, falling to Saint Francis, 2-0, on Ben Cohen Field. The Broncs fall to 5-6 on the season and 3-2 in NEC play, while the Red Flash improve to 10-3 overall, and remain unbeaten at 5-0 in league play.
The Red Flash opened the scoring midway through the first quarter on a corner. After the Broncs shut down three shot attempts, the Red Flash found a way for the fourth shot to sneak in to the back of the cage to open the scoring.
In the second, the Red Flash scored again getting a ball to trickle past in to the Rider net to extend the lead to 2-0, where it remained through the half.
Rider's best chances came late in the fourth, with a pair of corners, but
Anna Finn's (Windsor, NY/Windsor Central) shot was blocked and the Red Flash kept the Broncs off the board.
Quotes & Notes
"We battled, we just didn't execute when we needed to. We played panicky in the second half, they're a really good team, and I have a feeling this won't be the last time we see them. Sometimes you learn more from a loss than a win, so we're going to learn from this and keep climbing the ladder."
