Said Scores in Double Overtime to Lift Field Hockey Over Georgetown

WASHINGTON, DC – The Rider University field hockey team found a way to win Sunday afternoon, scoring in double overtime to defeat Georgetown, 4-3. The Broncs improve to 6-6 on the season, while the Hoyas fall to 3-10.

After the Broncs fought off four penalty corners in the first overtime period, Semra Said (Mannheim, Germany/Feudenheim Gymnasium Mannheim) scored just under three minutes into the second overtime period to give Rider the win.

Rider originally broke through less than four minutes into the contest on a penalty corner. Following a scramble in front, Emma Bonshak (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) took a shot that Ang Borisow (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) deflected into the back of the cage to give Rider the early lead.

Just before the half, Ryleigh Damminger (Paulsboro, NJ/GCIT) found the back of the net, extending the Rider lead to 2-0 at the break.

The Hoyas responded with a pair of goals in the third quarter, knotting the game enter the final 15 minutes.

Early in the fourth, the Broncs got to work again on the corner, and it was Said who eventually scored to give Rider the lead, but with less than five minutes to play, the Hoyas found the equalizer once again, setting up the overtime heroics.
