Four Broncs Victorious, but Wrestling Stumbles Against Drexel on Senior Night

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Four Broncs secured individual victories, but the Rider wrestling team ultimately fell to Drexel on Saturday night at Alumni Gym.

The match began at 165 lbs where Enrique Munguia took on Drexel's Cody Walsh. Munguia started the match with aggression, picking up the first takedown. Munguia extended his lead to 5-0 after scoring a reversal following the start of the second period. Munguia was able to ride tough to secure the riding time point to earn a 7-3 decision.

After the Broncs dropped the 174 lbs bout, No. 14 Isaac Dean brought the momentum back for Rider after securing a 7-3 decision over Giuseppe Hoose.

Drexel earned the next five bouts to seal the victory for the Dragons.

No. 14 Sammy Alvarez put the Broncs on the board at 149 lbs against Dominic Findora. After both wrestlers earned escapes to tie it at 1 in the final period, Alvarez delivered a decisive takedown, securing a 4-1 win and improving to 13-5 on the season.

No. 27 Colton Washleski faced No. 21 Luke Nichter at 157 lbs in the final bout of the evening. Washleski secured the only takedown of the first period for a 3-0 lead. Nichter started the second period on bottom, earning an escape, a penalty point, and a takedown to go ahead 4-3. Washleski escaped from the bottom and followed with a takedown to reclaim a 7-4 lead. A final-period escape sealed Washleski's 8-6 upset victory.

Quotes and Notes
"Today was the second day of back-to-back duals, we do that on purpose to get the team ready for MAC's and the NCAA's. I thought we wrestled flat today in comparison to last night, which something we need to improve upon.

We also need to finish matches with more disciplined positional wrestling, we let that match get away from us tonight." — Rider Head Coach John Hangey
