HAMPTON, VA – The Rider wrestling team dropped a pair of duals on Saturday afternoon falling to 13th-ranked Iowa State and Bucknell at the Hampton Collisusem.
Rider vs No. 13 Iowa State
The Broncs started the match with momentum at 197 lbs where Brock Zurawaki picked up a tight 5-3 victory over Nathan Schon.
The Cyclones won the next six bouts, including a tightly contested match between No. 18
Sammy Alvarez and Paniro Johnson at 149 lbs. Each guy had a series of escapes to make the match knotted at 1-1. Alvarez's injury time in the final period gave Johnson the choice of position after the injury timeout. Johnson got the escape to make the final 2-1 in a tight battle.
Enrique Munguia got the Broncs back on the board at 165 lbs where he took on Aiden Riggins. A takedown and four near-fall points extended Munguia's lead, securing a 13-6 victory.
Michael Wilson took on No. 15 (at 165 lbs) MJ Gaitan at 174 lbs. After being in a 6-0 hole after the opening period, Wilson put the pressure on securing an escape and two takedowns in the second period making the score 8-7 in favor of Gaitan. A takedown with 80 seconds left and the riding time point secured the 11-9 victory for the senior.
A top 20 showdown was in effect at 184 lbs where No. 17
Isaac Dean took on No. 16 Evan Bockman. Bockman got the escape in the second period after a scoreless opening three minutes making the score 1-0 going into the third. Dean chose the bottom position to make it even at 1-1. Bockman secured a late takedown to take the 4-1 lead. Dean escaped seconds later to try and get a takedown of his own but Bockman would sneak out the 4-2 decision.

Rider vs Bucknell
After dropping the first two bouts, the Broncs got on the board via forfeit at 125 lbs. The Bison took the next two weights before the Broncs got back on the board at 149 lbs where
Sammy Alvarez picked up a gritty 4-1 sudden victory win over Aiden Davis.
Colton Washleski kept the momentum going for Rider after he picked up a 5-1 decision over Cade Wirnsberger at 157 lbs.
Enrique Munguia took on No. 25 Noah Mulvaney at 165 lbs in a back-and-forth battle. Munguia opened scoring up, securing the first takedown. A 3-1 score quickly turned into a 5-1 score after Munguia hit a reversal after choosing the bottom position to start the second period. Mulvaney got the quick escape and takedown of his own making the score 5-5. Mulvaney had choice in the final period and secured the escape and 6-5 victory.
