Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Defeated by Lehigh

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University field hockey team led early in the second quarter, but ultimately fell 2-1 to Lehigh Sunday afternoon. The Broncs and Mountain Hawks both even their records at 2-2.

The Broncs got on the board less than a minute into the second quarter, earning a penalty corner. Ang Borisow (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) made the insert to Semra Said (Mannheim, Germany/Feudenheim Gymnasium Mannheim), who fired a pass to Megan Normile (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt). Normile ripped a shot that found its way to the back of the cage, giving Rider the early lead.

Minutes later, the Mountain Hawks responded, dribbling through the Rider defense, entering the circle, and ripping a shot that found the goal to even the score.

The game remained 1-1 into the fourth quarter when Lehigh scored off a give and go play to take the lead. Rider had a chance to equalize just minutes later. Katie Wuerstle (Schwenksville, PA/Perkiomen Valley[Kent St.]) saw her initial shot saved and fired the rebound past the goalie, but a diving Lehigh defender kept the ball in play and the Mountain Hawks would hold on to secure the win.

Quotes & Notes
"We need to capitalize on our opportunities. We've out-shot our opponent two games in a row and still did not come out with a win. We need to stick with the game plan. I thought we were good in the first half, and then in second half we didn't." – Head Coach Alicia Govannicci

- Lehigh now leads the all-time series 21-20-1.
Jade Regnart (Cape Town, South Africa/Fairmont) got the start in net, playing 58 minutes and making a season-high six saves in the losing effort.
- Borisow, Kate Mahmud (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West), Normile, and Lyric Scott (Union, NJ/Union) played all 60 minutes in the field for the Broncs.

Broncs By The Numbers
- The Broncs out-shot Lehigh 14-10, but the Mountain Hawks held a 9-8 edge in shots on goal.
- Lehigh earned eight corners to just three for the Broncs.
