Lacrosse Falls to Siena in MAAC Opener

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Rider University women's lacrosse team was defeated in its first-ever MAAC game, falling at Siena 22-4 Saturday afternoon. Both the Broncs and the Saints are now 6-3 overall on the season following the MAAC opener for both squads.

The Broncs struggled early, falling behind 3-0 in the first three minutes of the contest. Rider got on the board when Elena Bontatibus (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) found Toni Gismondi (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford[VCU]) to cut the deficit to 3-1, but the Saints outscored Rider 4-0 over the rest of the quarter to take a 7-1 lead after 15 minutes.

Early in the second, Bontatibus and Kylee Garcia (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville[FDU-Florham]) scored to make it 8-3, but Siena scored five-straight goals to go into the break leading 13-3.

With the Saints leading 15-3, Emily Wesoky (Sterling, VA/Dominion[Wagner]) made a nice feed to Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ/Camden Catholic[FDU-Florham]), who found the back of the net. Siena would score twice more in the quarter, leading 17-4 through three quarters, and would find five goals in the fourth quarter to produce the final score.
