Lacrosse Earns First MAAC Win Behind Record Performances

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's lacrosse team earned its first-ever MAAC win Wednesday afternoon, defeating Manhattan 14-11. The Broncs move to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in MAAC games, while the Jaspers fall to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in MAAC contests.

The Broncs got on the board first when Selena Carrington (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North[Rutgers]) found Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ/Camden Catholic[FDU-Florham]), who scored her 27th of the season less than two minutes into the game. The Jaspers responded outscoring the Broncs 4-0 over the rest of the period to take a 4-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes.

Trailing 5-2 early in the second quarter, Walsh scored two-straight goals before Anna Devlin (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City[TCNJ]) scored to tie the game then Kylee Garcia (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville[FDU-Florham]) scored her second of the contest giving Rider a 6-5 advantage. Devlin would again score before the half, but the Jaspers sandwiched a pair of goals around the tally to go into the break tied 7-7.

In the third, Walsh would score twice more and Carrington scored for the first time on the day, helping Rider take a 10-8 lead into the final quarter. Leading 10-9 early in the fourth, Garcia scored two in a row, stretching the lead to 12-9. After a Manhattan goal, Toni Gismondi (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford[VCU]) and Walsh scored to put Rider up 14-10, before the Jaspers scored to produce the final.

Quotes & Notes
"Early in the season, we did really well and I think exceeded a lot of people's expectations. I'd love to say teams are now figuring that out and scouting us, but at the same time, there's too many mistakes we're making on our own. It's nice to be back her, fight through the rain, but at the same time we want to have some normalcy. We want to start games how we started games the first half of the season."

"The difference was, we started playing with some urgency. For whatever reason we didn't have that early on and it was constant conversation with the players at every break, every media time out. There definitely was some clean up, but even more so it was just them pushing for each other." – Head Coach Evan Mager

- Jamie Kubach (Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter[FDU-Florham]) made the start in net and made four saves, allowing eight goals to earn the win.
- Nicole Caldarone (Mount Arlington, NJ/Mountain Lakes) made a save and allowed three goals in 15 minutes of action.
- Walsh's six goals are a single-game program record.
- During the game, Garcia recorded her 200th collegiate goal.

Broncs By The Numbers

- The Broncs held a 25-13 edge in ground balls. Walsh led Rider with five and Gaby Melendez (Victor, NY/Victor[Canisius/Central Connecticut]) added four.
