Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Falls to Oregon in Battle of Unbeatens

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's lacrosse team saw its unbeaten start to the season come to an end Friday afternoon, falling 17-9 to Oregon. The Broncs drop to 4-1 on the season, while the Ducks remain unbeaten 4-0 on the year.

After falling behind 2-0, Kylee Garcia (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville[FDU-Florham]) got the Broncs on the board, then found an open Emily Wesoky (Sterling, VA/Dominion[Wagner]) to even the score at 2-2. After another pair of goals by the Ducks, Garcia found the back of the net for her second of the game, trimming the deficit to 4-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Early in the second, Anna Devlin (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City[TCNJ]) evened the score once again off a feed from Selena Carrington (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North[Rutgers]). Trailing 5-4, Garcia completed the hat trick, then found Maggie Hance (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) to give Rider its first lead of the game at 6-5. The Ducks would find the answer closing the half on a 4-1, including a pair of goals in the final minute to go into the break leading 9-7.

The Ducks pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Rider 4-0 in the frame to extend the lead to 13-7.

Oregon scored the opening two goals of the fourth, extending the run to eight-straight going back to the second quarter. Carrington and Garcia both scored to snap the run, but the damage was already done.

Quotes & Notes
"We came out strong. There a couple things early in the game that we had scouted. Our scout was perfect. We knew what they would do, we knew their strengths. When you compare our roster size to their roster size, in these types of games that's going to play a big part. This is going to be the type of game that we're going to be in if we want to play in a championship or a high level in our conference."

"Every game we play is more experience we get, which means we're learning more. As long as we continue to grow, move on from this, understand the success that we had and the things we need to change, I don't think we're going to have many issues going forward."– Head coach Evan Mager

"The way that Oregon played defense, it was my specialty. I love one on ones, and me team was working with me, so I can't thank them enough. I'm very proud of my teammates, and they just gave me that lane, so I can go to goal." – Graduate Student Midfielder Kylee Garcia

- Jamie Kubach (Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter[FDU-Florham]) got the start in goal and played all 60 minutes in net, making 10 saves while taking the loss.
- Garcia tied a program record with her seven points in the contest.

Broncs By The Numbers
- Oregon held a 35-25 advantage in shots and 27-15 edge in shots on goal.
- The Ducks held a 19-16 edge in ground balls. Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ/Camden Catholic[FDU-Florham]) paced Rider with three.
- Oregon won the draw circle 15-13, the first time Rider was topped on the circle this season. Hayley Henderson (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) had five draw controls to lead the Broncs.
- Danika Sedivy (Centennial, CO/Heritage[St. Bonaventure]) led the Rider defense with four caused turnovers.
