Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Langan Scores 1,000th Collegiate Point; Women's Basketball Falls at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, CT – Despite a game-high 20 points from Taylor Langan (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Jefferson Township[Colgate/Millersville]), including the 1,000th of her collegiate career, the Rider University women's basketball team was unable to defeat Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon, falling 65-54. The Broncs fall to 5-15 on the season and 2-9 in MAAC play, while the Bobcats improve to 9-11 overall and 6-5 in league games.

Both sides struggled to build any momentum in the opening quarter with both sides failing to score more than two consecutive shots, but the Bobcats slowly built a 16-11 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Bobcats continued to slowly build the lead in the second until trailing 32-21, Makayla Firebaugh (Winchester, VA/James Wood) knocked down a three and Langan scored back-to-back buckets to trim the deficit to 32-28, but the Bobcats would lead 34-28 at the break after scoring the final basket of the half.

Quinnipiac carried the momentum into the second half, scoring the first seven points of the third quarter and extending the run to 9-0. Down 47-34, Rider climbed back into the game with an 8-1 run, getting five points from Mariona Cos-Morales (Matadepera, Spain/IESMatadepera[Casper College]) to close to within 48-42, but the Bobcats scored the final five points in the frame to lead 53-42 with 10 minutes to play.

Trailing 56-44 early in the fourth, Molly Lynch (Sea Girt, NJ/Rutgers Prep) hit a three, followed by Langan basket, putting the Broncs down 56-49. After the Bobcats made it 60-49, Langan scored off an offensive rebound, then Jessika Schiffer (Iserlohn, Germany/Deutschhaus Gymnasium Würzburg) drained a three to close again to within six, but the Broncs would get no closer.

Quotes & Notes
"Defensively we caused a lot of thirty second violation, which are great. We changed up some things on defense, and stayed connected with the defense we were in at the time. At this point of the year, there isn't a large margin for error, those five to seven possessions where you have your mind lapse catch up with you and can be a difference."

"I'm not frustrated with this group, I'm disappointed for them because I know what we're putting into it, top to bottom. Disappointed that we're not getting the results that I feel we should be getting." – Head coach Lynn Milligan

- Quinnipiac extends its lead in the all-time series to 22-4.
- Langan had a game-high 20 points, reaching double-figures for the 17th time this season. The Graduate Student now has 1,006 collegiate points with 252 at Colgate, 476 at Millersville, and 278 at Rider.
- Firebaugh added 13 points, her 12th game in double figures this season.
