Turnovers Trouble Women's Basketball at Niagara

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Rider University women's basketball team saw it four-game winning streak come to an end Thursday evening, falling at Niagara 75-56. The Broncs fall to 9-17 overall, and 6-11 in MAAC games, while the Purple Eagles improve to 16-12 on the season, and 13-5 in league games.
 
Niagara jumped out from the opening tip, scoring the game's first nine points. Down 12-3, The Broncs countered with a 7-0 run capped by a three-pointer by Jessika Schiffer (Iserlohn, Germany/Deutschhaus Gymnasium Würzburg[Buffalo]). Niagara would have the answer going on another 9-0 run to build a 21-13 lead after the opening quarter.
 
Leading 23-18 midway through the second quarter, Niagara closed out the half on a 16-2 run, putting the Purple Eagles on top 39-20 entering the locker room.
 
Down 42-20 early in the third, Kaylan Deveney (Medford, NJ/Life Center Academy) scored six-straight points, and another Schiffer three minutes later would trim the deficit to 44-30. Niagara once again had an answer, scoring six-straight points and eventually taking a 59-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
After scoring the final basket of the third, Rider scored eight-straight points, whittling the Niagara lead to just 59-46. But leading 64-50, Niagara made one final run, scoring eight unanswered points and cruised to the victory.

- Niagara earns the season sweep and now leads the all-time series 33-27.
- Schiffer led the Broncs with 15 points, her sixth game this season in double figures.
- Deveney tied a career high with 14 points, reaching double figures for the fifth time this year.

- Rider shot 51.1% (23-45) from the field, and 47.1% (8-17) from three, and the Purple Eagles shot 39.0% (30-77) from the field and 35.0% (7-20) from three.
- The Purple Eagles forced 38 Rider turnovers, 29 in the first half, leading to a 39-15 advantage in points off turnovers.
- The Broncs had 16 assists on their 23 made baskets, led by six from Sanaa Redmond (Philadelphia, PA/The Shipley School[Samford]), tying a season-high.
- Rider was outrebounded by Niagara, 39-33, including an 18-3 advantage on the offensive glass. Taylor Langan (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Jefferson Township[Colgate/Millersville]) led the Broncs with six rebounds.
