EDISON, NJ – Ellie Sciancalepore, the standout goalkeeper for Rider University's women's soccer team, has been named to the All-MAAC Second Team for the third time in her illustrious career, the league announced Monday morning.
Over the course of her five-year career, Sciancalepore has proven to be a cornerstone of the Broncs' defense, showcasing not only her shot-stopping abilities but also her leadership on the field. Her ability to perform under pressure was on full display during the 2024 season, where she accumulated 96 saves in 17 games, demonstrating both her reflexes and resilience. Her .807 save percentage, combined with a career-best 1.35 goals-against average (GAA), underscores her development and maturity in goal.
Her seven shutouts this season were critical in keeping Rider competitive, as they anchored the team's defensive efforts. Averaging 5.65 saves per game, she ranked third in the entire MAAC conference, a testament to her work rate and sharp decision-making skills. Her impact went far beyond individual accolades, as she often served as a vocal leader, orchestrating the defense and maintaining Rider's structure in challenging matches.
Throughout her career, Sciancalepore has amassed an impressive list of accomplishments, beginning with her MAAC Golden Glove award in 2022, which signified her as the top goalkeeper in the conference. However, her most remarkable achievement is breaking Rider's all-time record for career shutouts. With 22 clean sheets to her name, Sciancalepore leaves a lasting legacy as the program's all-time leader in this category. Her 433 career saves also place her among the best in Rider history, showcasing her longevity and consistency as a goalkeeper.
In addition, the league announced its All-Academic Team, with 13 Broncs earning the honor. To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.20 grade-point average and have completed at least two semesters at their institution.
