HAMDEN, CT – Rider University senior men's tennis student-athlete
Dhruv Tangri's (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) run at the first-ever MAAC Masters Tournament ended in Saturday's semifinals. Tangri also paired with
Nathan Slattery (Nenagh, Ireland) to advance to the doubles quarterfinals.
After receiving a bye into the Round of 16, Tangri defeated Marist's Augustin Damonte, 6-2, 7-6 (5) on Friday. Tangri kept things rolling with a 6-3, 6-3, win over Niagara's Gurustat Singh Makkar in the quarterfinals, before running into Siena's Oscar Martinez, who took a 6-3, 6-2, semifinal win.
In doubles, Tangri and Slattery defeated Antoine Henderson and Charlie Levinson of Sacred Heart, 6-4, in the Round of 16, before falling to Martinez and Dylan Breen of Siena, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.
In other Rider singles action,
Matteus Froberg Dahlin (Lidingo, Sweden Hersby Gymnasium) fell to Siena's Maxwell Acri, 6-3, 6-0, in the Round of 32, while
Matthew Griscti (Madliena, Malta) also fell in the Round of 32 in three sets to Sacred Heart's Enrique Laennec, 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.
The Broncs also had another duo competing in doubles, with Froberg Dahlin and
Dylan Lachmanen (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) falling in the Round of 16 to Fairfield's Alex Aguiar and Kacper Krolikowski, 7-5.
The Broncs return to action Oct. 17, when they compete at ITA Northeast Regionals at Penn.
