Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Stopped in Overtime at Stonehill

EASTON, MA – The Rider University field hockey team was defeated Friday afternoon, 3-2, in overtime at Stonehill. The Broncs fall to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in NEC play, while the Skyhawks improve to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Rider opened the scoring early when Semra Said (Mannheim, Germany/Feudenheim Gymnasium Mannheim) took advantage of a loose ball in front of the cage following a centering pass from Paulie Thiele (Pullach, Germany/Otfried Preussler Gymnasium Pullach), knocking in a backhand shot.

The Skyhawks got the equalizer in the second, sending the game to the half 1-1.

After a scoreless third, the Broncs would come through again early in the fourth. Olivia Machiavelli (Madrid, Spain/International School Sek el Castillo) deflected a shot into the back of the cage, once again giving Rider a lead. It would be Stonehill once again finding an answer, scoring off a penalty corner to send the game overtime.

Rider held possession early in the extra session until the Skyhawks found a perfect countering opportunity, playing a through ball from the defensive end through midfield to free an attacker behind the Rider defense and the Skyhawk forward scored a goal on the one-on-one with the goalie.
