BROOKVILLE, NY – The Rider University field hockey team extended its winning streak to five-straight games Friday afternoon, defeating LIU, 4-0. The Broncs improve to 10-6 overall on the season and 6-1 in NEC play, clinching a berth in the NEC Tournament, while the Sharks fall to 6-8 on the year and 4-3 in league games.
The Broncs' offense came out firing on all cylinders, opening the scoring just over three minutes into the game.
Valeria Perales (Madrid, Spain/IES Mirasierra) was fouled in the circle by the LIU goalie, earning the Broncs a penalty stroke that was converted by
Megan Normile (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt).
Minutes later, Perales again was involved in the action entering the circle and firing a shot that was saved. The rebound found the stick of
Semra Said (Mannheim, Germany/Feudenheim Gymnasium Mannheim), who went to the reverse chip to extend the lead to 2-0, where it would remain into the half.
In the third the Broncs would earn a flurry of corners. The fourth of the quarter saw Perales make the insert to the top of the circle where Normile fired a shot that was deflected onto the stick of
Lyric Scott (Union, NJ/Union), who made the pass to an open Perales at the post for the easy goal, extending the lead to 3-0.
Later in the third, the Broncs would put the game away on another corner. Perales made the insert to the top of the circle where Normile ripped a shot that found the back of the cage for her second goal of the game.
