Men's Soccer Earns Point on the Road at Quinnipiac With 1-1 Draw

Diene scores equalizer in 28th minute

HAMDEN, CT – Babcar Diene (Thies, Senegal/CEM Ballabey) scored the equalizer in the 28th minute as the Rider University men's soccer team played Quinnipiac to a 1-1 tie on the road Saturday afternoon. With the tie, the Broncs (5-1-3, 2-0-1 MAAC) are now unbeaten in their last eight (5-0-3) matches, while the Bobcats move to 2-4-3 (0-0-2 MAAC).

The Bobcats opened the scoring in the 24th minute, as the Bobcats connected passes in the box to create space for Dario Cavada's goal and a 1-0 lead. But just over four minutes later, Babcar Diene (Thies, Senegal/CEM Ballabey) equalized in the 28th minute. Adel Al Masude (Brussels, Belgium/GO Lyceum Gent) got a foot on a Bobcats' pass near the midfield stripe, deflecting it to lead Diene toward the top, right corner of the 18-yard box. With a defender on his left hip and the goalkeeper charging toward him, Diene slipped a low shot, from right-to-left, into the middle of the goal to knot the game at 1-1.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the final 45 minutes and the teams each settled for a point.

Quotes & Notes
"I thought we had a solid first half and created several dangerous chances. I was proud of the players to fight back after going down a goal. The second half, they certainly had more of the ball and we chased more than we'd like, but overall we went on the road and got a point, which is tough to do in this league." - Rider Head Coach Chad Duernberger

- Rider leads the all-time series with Quinnipiac, 7-5-1, with today's match marking the first time the two programs have drawn in 13 chances. Rider is 4-1-1 in its last six visits to Hamden.
- Adam Salama (Ramle, Israel/Orthodox [Ottawa Univ.]) made one save in the tie.
- The Broncs' current eight-game unbeaten streak is the programs' longest since Rider won 10 straight in 1997.
- Salama, Jack McGeechan (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional), Martin Chladek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Voderadska [Montevallo]), Saad Chaouki (Montreal, Quebec/Antoine de Saint Exupery), David Ogbonna (Silver Spring, MD/Blake [Villanova]), Sebastian Rojek (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills [Stony Brook]) and Ethan Shaw (Surf City, NJ/Northern Burlington [St. John's]) each played all 90 minutes.
- It was the ninth-straight 90-minute efforts for Salama, Chladek, Rojek and Shaw to begin the season.
