LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Ethan Shaw (Surf City, NJ/Northern Burlington [St. John's]) and
Saad Chaouki (Montreal, Quebec/Antoine de Saint Exupery) both scored goals as the Rider University men's soccer team shut out Fairfield, 2-0, on a rain-soaked Ben Cohen Field Sunday afternoon. With the win, Rider (5-1-2, 2-0-0 MAAC) has its first seven-match unbeaten streak since 2017, while the Stags fall to 3-5-0, 0-2-0 MAAC).
Shaw opened the scoring at 11:56, collecting the rebound of
Martin Chladek's (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Voderadska [Montevallo]) shot off the right post and depositing it into the right side of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Less than three minutes into the second half, the Broncs pushed to a 2-0 lead, as Rider sophomore goalkeeper
Adam Salama's (Ramle, Israel/Orthodox [Ottawa Univ.]) punt found
Babacar Diene (Thies, Senegal/CEM Ballabey) at the edge of the Broncs' attacking third. Diene elevated to head it on to a streaking Chaouki, who beat Fairfield keeper Victor Nikolov 1-v-1 for the 2-0 lead. The support was all Salama and the Broncs needed in securing their fourth clean sheet of the year and their third in the last four matches.
Quotes & Notes
"Every game is a little bit different in the challenge. This one had not only a good Fairfield team, but it also had the rain. We knew we were going to have to deal with that. It was going to have to be a little more gritty. It wasn't going to be us being able to ping it like we like through the thirds. I thought the guys did well… I'm really proud of these guys. Love these guys and excited for them for the run that they're on." –
