TOWSON, MD – The Rider University Field Hockey team could not defeat Towson Wednesday afternoon, falling 3-1. The Broncs drop to 2-5 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 4-4.
The Tigers opened the scoring early through the second quarter, converting a penalty corner. Towson then struck before either team had a chance to settle in, making the game 2-0 less than a minute later.
With less than a minute remaining in the third, the Tigers once again found the back of the cage to extend their advantage.
Rider got on the board early in the fourth quarter.
Valeria Perales (Madrid, Spain/IES Mirasierra) made a move past a defender to create space at the top left of the circle. The sophomore then ripped a shot that got behind the Tiger goalie to give the Broncs their first tally of the game.
The Broncs continued to apply pressure, but the Towson goalie made four saves in the final ten minutes to secure the win.
