Five Broncs Named NWCA All-Americans

Klinsky, Koehler, Laird, Szuba, and Mays named Academic All-Americans

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ.Four Rider Broncs earned National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American honors as Tyler Klinsky, Richie Koehler, Ethan Laird, Hunter Mays, and David Szuba all were announced by NWCA as part of the 2022-23 Scholar All-American Team and Individual honorees for Division I.

Klinsky was named as an NWCA Scholar All-American for the second straight year after picking up the honor in 2022. Klinsky was also honored by the team as the recipient of the Fred Henson Award given to the athlete who shows dedication on and off the mat. Klinsky was a huge part of Rider's season as the primary starter at 125 lbs during the dual season. Klinsky was able to put up a career-best 17 wins on the season and finished 7th at the MAC Championships.

Koehler is also picking up his second NWCA Scholar All-American honor after earning his first last year. Koehler posted an 11-10 record overall but was able to finish his season on a high note finishing 2nd at the MAC Championships in Fairfax after putting together another impressive run at MACs. Koehler would go on to win seven straight matches before falling to the eventual MAC Champion at 133 in Gable Strickland.

Laird wraps up his career at Rider with easily his best season on and off the mat picking up a MAC Scholar Athlete distinction as well as now his second NWCA All-American honor. Laird became 197lbs MAC Champion and finished 6th at NCAA Wrestling Championships, becoming Rider's 19th All-American in program history. In 2023, Laird was able to pick up his 100th career win as he would finish the season 28-4 leading all Broncs in wins on the year.

Szuba picks up his first NWCA Scholar All-American honor following his second season as the Broncs starter at 285. Szuba posted a career-best 21-13 record including a 5th-place finish at the MAC Championships. 

Mays became one of Rider's biggest surprises of the year as the Levittown, PA native would pick up 16 wins as a freshman with the Broncs. 
 
This year, 291 wrestlers from 73 institutions were recognized for their academic achievements and commitment to the sport of wrestling.
