Wrestling Gets Set for MACtion Packed Weekend

Broncs travel to Edinboro and Clairon for back-to-back MAC duals

EDINBORO, PA and CLARION, PA- The Rider Broncs look to get back on track in conference as they travel to the Keystone State for a pair of MAC duals with Edinboro and Clarion.

Last Time Out
The Rider Broncs were able to get a pair of upsets by #28 Quinn Kinner and Michael Wilson, however ultimately fell to Oklahoma 24-10. Kinner and Wilson were both able to pick up decision victories over the #19 Mitch Moore and #23 Tate Picklo respectively

Series History
- Rider holds the lead in the all-time series 19-4 vs Clarion and trails the all-time series with Edinboro 4-9.
- Last time out vs Edinboro Rider fell to the Fighting Scots 24-18 going 0-2 on the weekend series with Cleveland St and Edinboro.
- David Szuba and Quinn Kinner would go 2-0 in the duals.
- Last time out vs Clarion the Broncs won a close dual 16-15 as Matt Corenti would seal the dual with a major decision win at 197.

Scouting the Scene
- Edinboro ranks last in the MAC dual rankings at 0-5 in the Mid-American.
- The Fight Scots have also dropped each of their last seven duals
- Most recently Edinboro dropped a 28-12 decision to Clairon picking up wins at 285, 133, 149, and 157.
- Clarion most recently took down Kent State 29-6 picking up wins 125, 133, 165, 174, 184, 197, and 285.
- The win vs Kent St is the seventh straight win for the Golden Eagles who sit 1st in the MAC dual rankings.

Face of The Franchise 
- Laird also has not been beaten in duals this season with his lone loss coming at the Southern Scuffle
-Laird remains perfect 3-0 in MAC duals, with all three wins coming with extra team points by major decision or tech fall.
-Laird also ranks among the nation's best at 197 at #7 in the NCAA coaches polls and #8 in the Intermat Rankings
-Earlier this season Laird was able to take down the reigning National Champion Max Dean of Penn St
-Laird is on the verge of a career win 100 at Rider currently with 99 wins as a Bronc (including redshirt season in 2021-22).

Broncs In The Rankings 
- #31 McKenzie Bell, #19 Quinn Kinner at 149, and #8 Ethan Laird at 197 (Intermat)
- The NCAA released the first coaches' ranking of the 2022-23 season and four Broncs were nationally ranked. #26 McKenzie Bell (141), #22 Quinn Kinner (149), #7 Ethan Laird (197), and #31 David Szuba (HWT) all represent the Broncs in the national polls.
-The Rider Broncs were again ranked first in the MAC monthly rankings. Richie Koehler, #31 McKenzie Bell, #23 Quinn Kinner, and #7 Ethan Laird all were ranked at the top of their weight in the conference rankings.

Bronc Notes
- The Broncs are coming off a tough season in 2022 in which injuries and redshirt seasons limited the team. Rider finished 8th at MAC Championships.
- Rider returns five NCAA Qualifiers, including two from last season.
- A three-time NCAA Qualifier, Ethan Laird returns following a redshirt season in 2021-22. He qualified for NCAA's at 197 in his true sophomore and junior years, before bumping to heavyweight for 2020-21. He'll wrestle at 197 this season.
- Richie Koehler is a two-time NCAA Qualifier, earning the honor in each of the last two seasons at 133.
- Quinn Kinner, who was an NCAA Qualifier at 141 in his first season at Rider last year, will bump up to 149 this season.
- 2021 NCAA Qualifiers McKenzie Bell and Jake Silverstein also return this season. Bell redshirted last year after going to NCAA's at 141 as a true freshman. Silverstein suffered through injuries last season after qualifying for NCAA's at 165 in 2021.
- John Hangey returns for his sixth season as Rider's Head Coach. The 2020 MAC Co-Coach of the Year has posted a 44-27  dual record with 19 of his wrestlers qualifying for NCAA's in his first six years.
- The Broncs finished 35th at NCAA's last season with 5.5 points.
