LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The NCAA released its final coaches' ranking before the NCAA National Championships, and three Broncs were nationally ranked in both the coaches and RPI rankings. #26/#22
McKenzie Bell (141), #21/#12
Quinn Kinner (149), and #6/#2
Ethan Laird (197) all represent the Broncs in the national polls.
The Broncs also were able to score a national poller in the RPI rankings as Richie Koehler ranked #29 at 133.
The NCAA also announced the pre-allocations for qualifying for the NCAA Division l Wrestling National Championships. The MAC received 23 automatic bids with 149 pounds receiving the most bids with five and 157 and 174 receiving the second most with four.
The highest-ranking Bronc was Ethan Laird who ranks inside the top 10 in both polls ranking as high as second in the RPI polls. Early this year Laird was able to take down the reigning national champion at 197 in Max Dean of Penn State which cemented himself as a performer to watch come NCAA's. Laird has ranked in each of the NCAA coaches polls on the year with his #6 ranking being the highest of the year.
The coaches' rankings are determined by a vote of 14 coaches in each weight class with two head coaches from each of the seven conferences.
The coaches' ranking is one of several criteria that will be evaluated by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee during the at-large selection and seeding process along with head-to-head competition, quality wins, Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), conference tournament placement, results versus common opponents and win percentage.
Rider returns to action on March 3rd and 4th as they travel to Fairfax, VA to take part in the MAC Championships.
