Wrestling Drops Match With #RV Wisconsin

Three Broncs pick up bonus point decisions, but Rider falls 22-16

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ– Rider University's Wrestling team was able to secure a trio of bonus point victories by Colton Washleski, Jake Silverstein, and David Szuba however the Broncs would fall to #RV Wisconsin 22-16. With the loss, Rider falls to 1-3 in duals and Wisconsin moves to 3-1. 

Rider started the dual trailing 8-0 after back-to-back major decisions for Wisconsin. However, Rider would see their first win of the day by McKenzie Bell at 141lbs over Felix Lettini. Bell secured a takedown in the first period and continued to work picking up a point for an escape and a second takedown in the final period to cut the dual scoring to an 8-3 Wisconsin lead.

The Broncs continued to battle back following a loss at 149 by picking up back-to-back majors of their own starting at 157lbs with Colton Washleski. Washleski scored a first-period takedown and then added a second one in the middle period to go up 6-2 over Luke Mechler. Washleski would add a pair of takedowns in the final frame to take the bout by major 12-4.

The next Rider major came from Jake Silverstein at 165lbs. Silverstein would set the tone early scoring three points in the first period. The Broncs NCAA qualifier in 2021 kept the attacks going throughout the match adding one in each period to secure the major over Gavin Model 10-2. 

David Szuba rounded out the Broncs' afternoon with a dominant showing vs Gannon Rosenfeld winning by tech fall 22-6. Szuba kicked off the match with a pair of takedowns in the first period. However, Szuba would kick into another gear in the 3rd period scoring a pair of takedowns in the final period to secure the tech 22-6.
