Wrestling Gets Back to Duals Hosting #RV Wisconsin

Broncs host Badgers on Saturday Afternoon

Rider University's Wrestling Team returns to Lawrenceville as they welcome Wisconsin to Alumni Gym on Saturday Afternoon.

Last Time Out
-Colton Washleski shined on Sunday afternoon as he was crowned 157 lbs champion as Rider University's Wrestling team competed at the A Better Way Athletics Patriot Open hosted by George Mason University.
- Isaac Dean would also have a strong showing reaching the podium with a 3rd place finish at 184 good for the second-highest finish at the open among fellow Broncs. 
- In total five Broncs reached the podium as Washleski and Dean were joined by Tyler Klinsky (4th), Azeem Bell (4th), and Liam Scrivanich (6th).
- Five members of the Rider University Wrestling team participated at the historic Cliff Keen Invitation in Las Vegas last Friday with Richie Koehler, McKenzie Bell, Quinn Kinner, Michael Wilson and David Szuba all picking up victories on Day 1 of the event. 
- Kinner would be the Bronc to go the farthest on the evening reaching the quarterfinals before falling in his first match of the year 13-6, to former All-American and National runner-up Ridge Lovett of Nebraska who also was the top seed at the event.

Winner Washleski 
- Colton Washleski shined on Sunday afternoon as he was crowned 157 lbs champion as Rider University's Wrestling team competed at the A Better Way Athletics Patriot Open hosted by George Mason University.
- Washleski currently holds a team-best 11-2 record being the first Bronc to reach double-digit wins

Broncs in the Rankings
- Rider ranks two wrestlers in the Intermat national rankings with #12 Quinn Kinner, and #30 David Szuba.

Big Kinner
- Quinn Kinner secured his second NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022-23, finishing the year with a 24-9 record in his first season at 149. Kinner was able to battle back through the blood rounds at the MAC Championships, finishing third to secure his spot at NCAAs. 
- Kinner is coming off his most impressive week with Rider after taking down a pair of nationally ranked opponents vs SIUE and Indiana (#21 Caleb Tyus and #6 Graham Rooks) 
- The Ohio State transfer has been a dominant piece for the Broncs since coming over from OSU where he posted a 38-10 record over two seasons at Ohio State, including a redshirt year as a true freshman in 2018-19.
- The Mullica Hill native returns to the Garden State where he was one of the most impressive wrestlers in the state at Kingsway Regional High School where he won two state titles for the Red Dragons. 

Kingsway Connection
- Kinner and Bell return to action on the same mat after wrestling together at Kingsway Regional in South Jersey.
- Bell was a three-time New Jersey State Place Winner amassing over 150 wins as a Red Dragon
- Kinner was a two-time NJ state champion finishing his career as one of the most decorated wrestlers in school history.

History vs Wisconsin 
- Rider and Wisconsin are meeting for the fifth time on Saturday afternoon.
- Wisconsin leads the all-time series history 3-1, however Rider Rider took the last meeting between the two in 2014, 20-19 in Lawrenceville.

About the Badgers

-  Wisconsin wrestling battled through a slow start to upend visiting Bucknell on Sunday, 24-22.
-Badgers Dean Hamiti and Max Maylor made quick work of their Bison opponents with pins to take the lead and set up teammate Shane Liegel to secure the team victory with a decision.
-Several Badgers were wrestling up in weight classes with some reshuffling as the team continues to adjust its lineup this fall. Wisconsin and Bucknell split the bouts 5-5, but the Badgers held the advantage in points scored.
- Four Badgers are ranked nationally by Intermat with 125: #11 Eric Barnett, 149: #17 Joseph Zargo, 165: #6 Dean Hamiti, and 174: #28 Max Maylor
- Wisconsin finished 8-8 in duals last year with a 1-7 record in the B1G
- Wisconsin also finished 16th at NCAAs with 29 points with Dean Hamiti and Trent Hillger being named All-Americans 
- Dean Hamiti returns for Wisconsin following back-to-back All-American campaigns as a freshman and a sophomore.
