RIVERDALE, NY – The Rider University women's basketball team was defeated, 73-39, to open conference play at Manhattan Satruday afternoon. The Broncs fall to 2-7 overall and the Jaspers improve to 6-2 on the year in the MAAC opener for both teams.
The Broncs offense started slow, but threes by
Jessika Schiffer (Iserlohn, Germany/Deutschhaus Gymnasium Würzburg),
Kaylan Deveney (Medford, NJ/Life Center Academy), and
Sanaa Redmond (Philadelphia, PA/The Shipley School[Samford]) had the Broncs in front 11-10 after the game's opening 10 minutes.
After another Schiffer three, trimmed what had become a Manhattan lead to just one at 19-18, the Jaspers closed out the half on a 14-4 run to lead 33-22 at the half.
The Jaspers carried the momentum into the second half, opening the third quarter on a 10-0 run and using a later 8-0 run to pull away, leading 53-30 after three quarters.
Manhattan continued to pull away in the fourth, opening the quarter on an 11-2 run to help produce the final score.

- Rider shot 24.0% (12-50) from the field, and 31.6% (6-19) from three, and the Jaspers shot 46.0% (29-63) from the field and 26.9% (7-26) from three. Schiffer and Deveney each scored eight points to lead the Broncs.

- Manhattan outrebounded Rider 48-30, including a 13-9 advantage in offensive boards. Redmond had five rebounds to lead Rider.
