FAIRFIELD, CT – The Rider University women's swimming and diving team earned its first two victories of the season Saturday, topping Siena 188.5-110.5 and Sacred Heart 179-121 in a tri-meet. The Broncs improve to 2-4 on the season. The Saints move to 3-4-1 and the Pioneers are now 1-4-1.
The Bronc women won 10 events in the meet.
Rider started quickly with a win in the 200-medley relay.
Chastity Ruatos (Lodi, NJ/Immaculate Conception),
Sarah Fondacaro (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.),
Maddie McSorley (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy), and
Lea Opdyke (Ocala, FL/West Port) combined for a swim of 1:50.36.
In the 1,000-free,
Casey McLaughlin (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) and
Mallory Mead (Middle River, MD/Dulaney[Oklahoma Christian]) finished one-two, stopping the clock at 10:42.27 and 10:47.35.
The Broncs got another one-two finish in the 100-back. Ruatos and Mead touched the wall at 59.85 and 1:00.34, respectively. Mead and Ruatos flipped places in the 200-back, with Mead taking the win in 2:08.24 and Ruatos following in 2:12.35.
Hannah Yemec (Bluffton, SC/May River) and McLaughlin swam one-two in the 200-fly, swimming 2:06.16 and 2:10.95, respectively. Yemec then swam one-two in the 100-fly with
Alexa Torres (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst), touching the wall at 57.62 and 1:00.12, respectively.
Suriya Pathammavong (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) won the 200-breast with a time of 2:27.86.
Opdyke and
Megan Smith (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) were one-two in the 500-free, swimming 5:13.44 and 5:15.74.
McLaughlin and
Gianna Farina (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) swam 4:37.91 and 4:42.63 to take first and second in the 400-IM.
The Broncs closed out the meet with a win in the 200-free relay. Fondacaro, Yemec, Opdyke, and McSorley stopped the clock at 1:39.51 for the victory.
