LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Senior
Kiera Guckavan (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) and freshman
Willemijn Ephraim (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Vossius Gymnasium) connected on a pair of goals off penalty corners as the Rider University field hockey team earned a 2-0 league win over Stonehill on Senior Day Sunday. With the win, the Broncs improve to 5-7 (2-1 NEC), while the Skyhawks slip to 2-10 (1-2 NEC).
Following a scoreless first half, Guckavan inserted a penalty corner and received it back from Ephraim to unleash a shot inside the near, left post with five minutes left in the third quarter. With Stonehill pulling the goalie and down another defender to a green card, the Broncs added an insurance goal with 1:52 remaining in the fourth quarter off another corner. This time, Ephraim rifled a shot directly from the top of the circle off Guckavan's insert.
Quotes & Notes
"Today especially, our seniors stepped up. They played really, really well. Kiera scored a goal. I said, 'who wants to score?' Kiera said she did. So I let take the shot and she scored it. So I'm really happy that we could get the win for our seniors and I'm happy for Kiera scoring that goal. Carlee also played phenomenal in goal for us." –
