HAMDEN, CT– The Rider University volleyball team was defeated in straight sets Sunday afternoon at Quinnipiac, falling 25-21, 25-16, 25-20. The Broncs fall to 5-13 on the year, and are now 4-6 in MAAC play, while the Bobcats improve to 13-6 on the season, and 9-1 in league play.
In the opening set, Quinnipiac jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Then leading 7-4, the Bobcats went on another 5-0 run. Down 23-17, the Broncs scored four-straight, including an ace by
Paige Giehtbrock (Clarkston, MI/Clarkston), but the Bobcats closed out the set with two consecutive points.
In set two,
Ryley Frye (New Hope, MN/Robbinsdale Armstrong[UTEP]) opened the set with a pair of aces, helping the Broncs to a 3-0 lead. The Bobcats quickly took the lead back with a 4-0 run and the set remained tight until, leading 8-7, Quinnipiac went on a 5-1 run. Leading 20-16, Quinnipiac served out the set with five-straight points.
Tied 2-2 in the third,
Molly Strah (Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) capped a 5-0 run with an ace, but Quinnipiac answered with four-straight points. Down 11-8, the Bobcats took the lead in the set with a 4-0 run. Tied 20-20, The Bobcats again closed the set with a 5-0 run to win the match.
