LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider Broncs get set for a busy stretch of days as they travel to Lock Haven for a MAC dual with the Bald Eagles before returning to Lawrenceville to square of with the Bucknell Bison.
What You Need To Know
Last Time Out
-Rider snapped it's losing streak to cross-town rival Princeton as the Broncs would take down the Tigers, 19-18, at Jadwin Gym. Rider won based on the criteria D, total near fall points, which the Broncs got by way of victories late by #33 McKenzie Bell and #23 Quinn Kinner.
-At the end of all 10 bouts, there was an even tie in matches won 5-5. The next category to win was most amount of wins by pin, forfeits, defaults and disqualifications, which there was none of. Total points, criteria C, came out even as well, at 66-66, moving the decision on to criteria D, near-fall points which Rider would be able to take the dual with 18 near-fall points. Kinner accounted for 14 of those in his tech-fall win at 149 to help squeeze the Broncs past Princeton.
-The win is Rider's first over Princeton since January 2018.
- The win is Rider's first at Princeton since 2016.
- The 18-0 shutout is Kinner's third tech fall shutout of the season and his largest win of the year.

- Richie Koehler earned a hard-fought victory after overtime and two 30-second tiebreaker sessions to win the matchup. Quinn Kinner and Cole McComas would continue the momentum, pushing the Rider lead to 10-4 before Lock Haven took two major decisions in a row to reclaim the lead and subsequently the match, 24-10.

- Rider has lost each of the last three to Bucknell. The last time Rider was able take down Bucknell was over two decades ago in the 1998-99 season, when the Head Coach of the Bison was none other than
John Hangey.
- Last time out, Bucknell took a close dual 17-15. #25 Quinn Kinner (Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway) earned a decision over #20 Darren Miller.
- Youth 12 and under can purchase $5 general admission tickets at the door as January is Rider's Youth Month.

Lock Haven
- Over the weekend, the Bald Eagles split the opening two conference duals of the MAC season. On Friday, LHU picked up a 20-16 win over Cleveland State, before dropping a close-fought dual at Clarion on Sunday
Bucknell
- Bucknell will host EIWA foe LIU at 11am on Satrday before traveling to Lawrenceville.
- The Bucknell wrestling team dropped its first EIWA match of the season to Drexel 23-13 Sunday at Davis Gym. Drexel's three nationally-ranked wrestlers combined for 10 team points, and the Dragons used a 17-0 run to erase an early 10-6 Bison lead.
- The Bison went 12-6 (7-3 EIWA) during the 2021-22 season. Bucknell placed four on the podium at the 2022 EIWA Championships, two of which (Miller and Nick Delp) returned for the 2022-23 season. Bucknell has six returning EIWA placewinners overall, and Miller is the team's lone returning NCAA qualifier, earning an automatic bid at 133 pounds in 2021.
- Bucknell welcomed nine newcomers to the team this season after losing six to graduation in the spring. Notably, the Bison lost All-American and four-time NCAA qualifier Zach Hartman (165).
- Bucknell's grueling 2022-23 schedule includes trips to the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and the Southern Scuffle. In dual action, the Bison face three ranked teams from the preseason top 25.
- Head coach Dan Wirnsberger is in his 18th season at the helm of the Bucknell wrestling program. He's scored 145 career victories, good for second in school history; he was also tabbed as the 2015 EIWA Coach of the Year after the Bison placed third at the EIWA Championships and qualified four wrestlers for the NCAA Championships.
- Wirnsberger and Bob Ferraro, who led Bucknell to a 169-175-6 record from 1974 to 1997, are the program's only head coaches to reach the 100-win plateau.
Broncs In The Rankings
- #33 McKenzie Bell, #23 Quinn Kinner at 149, and #7 Ethan Laird at 197 (Intermat)
- The NCAA released the first coaches' ranking of the 2022-23 season and four Broncs were nationally ranked. #26 McKenzie Bell (141), #22 Quinn Kinner (149), #7 Ethan Laird (197), and #31 David Szuba (HWT) all represent the Broncs in the national polls.
-The Rider Broncs were again ranked first in the MAC monthly rankings. Richie Koehler, #31 McKenzie Bell, #23 Quinn Kinner, and #7 Ethan Laird all were ranked at the top of their weight in the conference rankings.
Bronc Notes
- The Broncs are coming off a tough season in 2022 in which injuries and redshirt seasons limited the team. Rider finished 8th at MAC Championships.
- Rider returns five NCAA Qualifiers, including two from last season.
- A three-time NCAA Qualifier, Ethan Laird returns following a redshirt season in 2021-22. He qualified for NCAA's at 197 in his true sophomore and junior years, before bumping to heavyweight for 2020-21. He'll wrestle at 197 this season.
- Richie Koehler is a two-time NCAA Qualifier, earning the honor in each of the last two seasons at 133.
- Quinn Kinner, who was an NCAA Qualifier at 141 in his first season at Rider last year, will bump up to 149 this season.
- 2021 NCAA Qualifiers McKenzie Bell and Jake Silverstein also return this season. Bell redshirted last year after going to NCAA's at 141 as a true freshman. Silverstein suffered through injuries last season after qualifying for NCAA's at 165 in 2021.
- John Hangey returns for his sixth season as Rider's Head Coach. The 2020 MAC Co-Coach of the Year has posted a 44-26 dual record with 19 of his wrestlers qualifying for NCAA's in his first six years.
- The Broncs finished 35th at NCAA's last season with 5.5 points.
