MAAC Releases Women's Basketball Conference Schedule

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference today announced its league schedule for the 2022-23 season. The schedule features a full round-robin 20-game schedule in which all teams are set to complete home-and-home series against the league's other 10 teams. The Broncs open conference play with the annual Buffalo trip on Dec. 17-19 and other highlights on the schedule include the annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day Clinic game on Feb. 12. The Broncs wrap up the regular season with Senior Day on Mar. 4.
 
Television information and start times will be announced at a later date.

Quickly: Rider has now won four straight over the Golden Griffins including both meetings last season. In the Senior Day victory last season, Raphaela Toussaint led four Broncs in double figures with 18 points to go along with seven rebounds.
 
Niagara

Quickly: Rider and Niagara played a crazy pair of games last season when these programs played back-to-back games in mid-January. Molly Lynch had a career game with nine points, seven assists, and two boards as Lenaejha Evans added 30 points in a 92-70 Bronc victory at Niagara. In the return game, Makayla Firebaugh's 31 points were not enough as the Purple Eagles erased a 16-point deficit to defeat the Broncs by one.
 
Siena

Quickly: It was a tale of two games for these teams a season ago. At Siena, Rider led wire-to-wire building a 16-point lead at the end of the first quarter before cruising to a 16-point victory. The Saints flipped the script in the return trip, never trailing as they won 82-44 in Alumni Gym.
 
Saint Peter's

Quickly: Rider and Saint Peter's split the regular season meetings for the third-straight season last year. In the victory at Rider last season, the Broncs held the Peacocks to just 26.9% shooting from the field and 13.0% shooting from behind the arc.

Quickly: The Gaels were the thorn in the Broncs' side last season, topping Rider in both regular season meetings as well as in the 8-9 game in the opening round of the MAAC Tournament. The Gaels will be dangerous again, returning MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and Second-Team All-MAAC selection, Juana Camilion.
 
Mount St. Mary's

Quickly: The newest member of the MAAC, Mount St. Mary's joins the conference for the 2022-23 season after leaving the NEC following last season. These teams last met in the 2018-19 season, an 18-point Rider victory. Stella Johnson had a triple-double in that game, scoring 35 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists.    
 
Fairfield

Last Meeting: Fairfield, 65-61 (Mar. 3, 2021; Bridgeport, CT)

Quickly: The Stags swept the Broncs in their pair of games in each of the last two seasons. Reigning MAAC Player of the Year, Lou Lopez-Senechal, will have to be replaced by the Stags, after she departed to UCONN as a grad transfer. One of several close conference games the Broncs played last season, Rider led 42-41 entering the fourth quarter at Fairfield last season before ultimately falling 65-61. Lenaejha Evans led three Broncs in double figures with 18 points in that contest.
 
Quinnipiac

Quickly: Quinninpiac regained the upper hand in the series, winning both meetings last season after Rider had won four of five. The first meeting last season was within Rider's grasp as the Broncs held a 55-52 lead with 1:36 remaining. The Bobcats outscored the Broncs 12-5 over the remainder of the game, to earn the victory. Jessika Schiffer scored a career-high 22 points and added seven assists in that first meeting.
 
Marist

Quickly: Is will be the end of an era when head coach Brian Giorgis' 20-plus year tenure as head coach of the Red Foxes comes to an end after the season. The Broncs defeated Marist in Poughkeepsie last year, but Marist returned the favor in Alumni Gym. Makayla Firebaugh led Rider with 14 points and nine rebounds in the victory at Marist last season.
 
Manhattan

Quickly: Rider had a pair of disappointing games against Manhattan last season, beginning with the Jaspers erasing a 23-point deficit in Riverdale to top the Broncs, led by a 31-point fourth quarter. In the return game in Alumni Gym, Rider led 40-35 through three quarters, but the Jasper out-scored Rider 21-9 in the final frame for another come-from-behind victory. The Jaspers return two of their three All-MAAC honorees in Dee Dee Davis and Brazil Harvey-Carr with Courtney Warley departing due to graduation. The Jaspers fell to Fairfield in the finals of the MAAC Tournament last season.
