Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls at Princeton, 3-0

Broncs open league play Wednesday vs. Manhattan

PRINCETON, NJ – Princeton scored a goal less than three minutes into regulation and never looked back in a 3-0 win over the Rider University men's soccer team Friday night on Sherrerd Field. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-5-1, while the Tigers are now 3-2-1.

The Tigers opened the scoring on a James Wangsness goal in the third minute. Wangsness collected a poor clearance near the top of the 18-yard box and deposited it past Guillaume Veinante (Bayonne, France/Faculte des métier de Rennes) for the 1-0 lead. The Rider deficit would remain 1-0 at the half.

In the 54th minute, Ryan Claire gave Princeton an insurance goal on a header in front off a Mateo Godoy cross. Claire would go for the brace in the 63rd minute, knocking in the rebound of a shot that was initially saved by Jack McGeechan (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) on the goal line off a Princeton corner kick.

Notes
- Princeton improved its lead in the all-time series to 17-3-3, including the last five. Rider's last win over the Tigers came 2002. Following the decision, the two teams didn't play for a decade, before Princeton started its five-game winning streak in 2012.
- After not surrendering a second-half goal through its first five games, the Broncs have given up three second-half goals in the last two games.
- Rider is now 0-5-0 in games in which the opponent scores first and 1-0-1 when it scores the game's first goal.
- Veinante made his seventh-straight start in net and made five saves.
- Ben Collins (Wellington, New Zealand/Wellington College) subbed on following the third Princeton goal for his Rider debut. He made one save on his only shot on goal faced.
- Tonight's game marked the first time no Bronc played all 90 minutes. Veinante and Lenny Cidolit (Montpellier, France/Montpellier Univ.) had played all 540 minutes entering the game.
- Rider played without reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Zaki Alibou (Meknes, Morocco/Meknes) for the fifth time in the last six games due to injury.

Broncs By The Numbers
- Dylan Kotch (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) took a team-high three shots.
- Cidolit put Rider's lone shot on target.
