Virginia Defeats Men's Soccer, 4-0

Broncs outshoot Cavaliers, 5-0, in second half

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Virginia scored four first-half goals to defeat the Rider University men's soccer team, 4-0, Monday night at Klockner Stadium. With the loss, the Broncs drop to 0-2, while the Cavaliers are now 2-0.

Four different Cavaliers scored in the 13th, 17th, 35th and 44th minutes to create a comfortable cushion for Virginia. Following an 8-0 discrepancy in first-half shots, the Broncs battled back with a 5-0 margin in the second. But Rider couldn't find the back of the net as Virginia closed out the victory.

- The Broncs and Cavaliers met for the third time, with Virginia taking a 3-0 lead in the series. Both prior meetings were NCAA Tournament First Round games in 1998 and 2015.  
- Guillaume Veinante (Bayonne, France/Faculte des métier de Rennes) took the loss in goal, making two saves.
- Veinante, Regis Dulck (Strasbourg, France/Univ. of Strasbourg), Lenny Cidolit (Montpellier, France/Montpellier Univ.) and Guillaume Sarrabayrouse (Toulose, France/Pierre Paul Riquet) each played all 90 minutes and have played all 180 minutes through two games this season.
- The Broncs were awarded a penalty kick in the 86th minute after Babacar Diene (Thies, Senegal/CEM Ballabey) was taken down with a foul inside the 18-yard box. But Cidolit's attempt sailed high of the crossbar.
- The Broncs were playing without the services of reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Year - Zaki Alibou (Meknes, Morocco/Meknes).
